High Altitude Alpine Trails of Ouray: Welcome to Yankee Boy Basin

Описание: There are a plethora of trail options near Ouray, Colorado to explore by high clearance 4x4, so sometimes it's hard to choose. Yankee Boy Basin may not be as well-known as Imogene Pass or Black Bear Pass, but this trail packs a lot of beautiful scenic mountains into a small space. The trail begins easy: as in, you can practically take your sedan up the first section if you dare, but once you pass the Twin Falls (making sure to get out and enjoy them, of course) you had better be prepared with your high clearance 4x4 if you want to drive all the way to the top of the basin. The thin air and views will take your breath away, and this is a well-known spot to enjoy wildflowers in season.

On this trip, Taylor and Tristan are driving a fully equipped overland rental vehicle from Peak Overland (see links below). They originally rented a vehicle off of Turo, but the renter substantial changed the set up two weeks before our trip (!) and it was just no longer appropriate for the kind of trails we wanted to explore. They then reached out to Peak Overland, who set them up with a rental for an equipped Ford Bronco. (Taylor has a Bronco at home and is a little partial to them.) But when that Bronco took some damage during a prior rental, Peak Overland made sure to find an alternative to get them on the trail for their trip. And that's where the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon entered the scene. If you have ever wanted to take an overland trip out west but didn't want to invest in either the extensive drive time or cost to buy and equip your own vehicle, this is a great option. .... and if you notice the shudder in some of the drone footage (it's hard to ignore on a big screen unfortunately) the drone had a crash the day before on Red Mountain. The shudder doesn't happen all the time, but we are in the process of getting that fixed so future videos don't suffer.
