The term “extreme hunger” is often used to describe the insatiable, intense desire to eat after a period of under-eating.
When your body undergoes a period of calorie restriction via dieting or an ED - there are shifts that occur with leptin (fullness hormone) and ghrelin (hunger hormone).
Leptin is released to signal that we are full and satisfied after eating, however, with prolonged caloric restriction and/or weight loss, this signaling is decreased👇🏼and there is an increase👆🏼in ghrelin.
You do not have to be underweight to experience extreme hunger or the desire to binge‼️
More often than not, I work with clients who have never been clinically “under weight” and experience constant food thoughts, insatiable hunger and binge eating episodes.
There is more to overcoming this than what you eat or how much you weigh.
In Nourished to Thrive, I help you rebuild trust with your body and help you understand your body’s intuition so that you can stop restricting, feeling out of control with food and can finally make peace with food❤️
