In this video you will learn about seam allowances and different types of seams you can work with based on fabric weight on your garment.
Seam allowances give shape to the garment and protects the stitches from pulling away from the seam.
Closed seams are found on most garments. Open seams are the most basic seams to practice as a beginner.
Seam allowances are sewn in plain seam. Plain seam is the most basic and least noticeable of all seams.
1/4” seam allowance is used mostly on light weight fabrics.
1/2” seam allowance is the most popular stitch allowance used on light weight wand medium weight fabrics.
5/8”, 3/4” and 1” seam allowance is used on heavy weight fabrics.
