The European Union rules a new ban on the destruction of unsold clothing, footwear, and apparel taking effect and starting with enforcing large companies to comply by July 19, 2026. The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) law aims to curb textile waste, requiring brands to prioritize reuse, repair, or recycling over incineration. The destruction of textile items will only apply under the exception for safety reasons or product damage.
