40 Min Yin Yoga Stretch For The Autumn Equinox. Step into rest!
Today's practice is a gentle morning yin yoga sequence, to welcome the autumn equinox. The perfect and most relaxing way to start your fall day or to compliment your morning routine. Fall is the perfect opportunity to rest and reflect. Just as the seasons change, nature reminds us to follow suite. As the leaves shed and prepare for new growth, we can also see this as our resting season, a season to prepare for new growth/opportunities to come. There is a scripture that reads "For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven" (Ecclesiastes 3:1) I believe, this verse reminds us that just as nature moves through seasons so do our lives. We have the opportunity to step back and step into rest this fall season. The practice today is very hip heavy, lots of low back, side body and hip opening. If you have low back pain, you will enjoy this practice!

Doing yin in the morning is so beneficial because the body is still "cold". This allows for a tighter pull on the ligaments, thus increasing overall mobility and range of motion.

What is Yin Yoga? Yin yoga is MAGIC. Well, that is how I would describe it. Yin yoga is a practice that that allows you to go beyond the superficial layers of the body and access the deeper layers. This means in a Yin Yoga practice you are going beyond the muscles and right into the deep connective tissues of the body. Our connective tissues are made up of fascia, ligaments and tendons which surround and form our joints. Therefore, when you practice Yin Yoga you are able to increase your range of motion, your flexibility and strengthen your joints. A win win! If you ask me. Yin yoga is more than stretching, we are “stressing” the connective tissues and we do this with longer holds and intuitive breathing.
When practicing always remember
1. Meet the pose at YOUR edge (gradually)
2. Find stillness and focus on your breath
3. Resolve to be still
