They said the Midlands are flat. They lied. Today I’m taking on Beacon Hill Parkrun, a brutal 5K route that climbs a 700-million-year-old extinct volcano.
This isn't your normal Saturday morning jog. The race starts with a relentless 1.5km grind straight to the summit. I managed to battle my way into a good position on the climb, but the "gravity dividend" on the 2km downhill changed everything.
Watch until the final 150m to see me get absolutely humbled by a local sprinter who came out of nowhere!
🏃♂️ THE RUN: Beacon Hill Country Park is the 2nd highest point in Leicestershire, just outside of Loughborough. If you want to conquer the fells without driving to the Lake District, this is the spot.
