Benefits of a regular Yin yoga practice:
• Gain flexibility and increase motion in our joints
• Calm and balance the mind and body
• Reduce stress and anxiety
How? Unlike other styles of Yoga, instead of focusing on the muscles, the emphasis is on the deep connective tissues, including facia, ligaments, joints and bones. Yin works deeply into the body with passive longer-held poses, stretching and lengthening those rarely used tissues while also teaching you how to breathe through discomfort and sit with your thoughts.
Four main principles of when practicing Yin Yoga:
• Come into the pose to an appropriate depth, never stretch so far as to cause pain
• Resolve to remain still
• Hold the pose for time
• Come out of the pose gently and slowly
