New Power! Fresh SD75IACC Rebuilds on CN L502 2025-01-11

Описание: Hello all and happy new year. The first railfanning I did in 2025 was a nice surprise when I found out that CN Sarnia - Garnet train L502 had a pair of recently-rebuilt SD75IACC's for power. The engines were on their second day of revenue service, and with some decent winter weather, it was a no-brainer to go after this train.

I started the day at Brantford, where I caught M394 just ahead of L502; CSX 3429 as DPU on 394 was also a nice surprise. I caught 502 at Brantford just ahead of it diverging onto the OCS-controlled Hagersville sub for the final 25 miles to Garnet. The speed on the Hagersville sub is 25 MPH at best, with several slow orders, making for an easy chase; I caught the train at Onondaga, Middleport, and the defect detector at mile 22 before reaching Caledonia. The large bridge over the Grand River always makes for a nice photo, and the sun even came out for this shot which was a nice bonus! From there, I caught the train passing the CGC sheetrock plant near mile 13, and then passing the grain elevator in Hagersville. The train ties up at Garnet yard every day, and on this day the crew was originally going to park the power at the south end of the track they pulled into; when the crew taxi parked at the north end, the crew decided to move the power to the north end as well in preparation for 501's return trip that night.

This was a fun chase with some friends and a nice easy way to start off 2025. Hopefully this is the first of many railfanning trips this year; who knows what else 2025 will bring?!
