My entire intention for these videos is to act as a visual support towards experiencing and embracing the process of art. Trusting the process is one of the most valuable skills an artist can learn. Understanding that art takes time is another. That’s why the only editing that this project has gone through is to add music, insert the artist’s acknowledgements and notes along the way. I want those seeing this to know how much time this took without the timelapse.


Teaching Notes:

Brick Set A (Only as Second Rows Made)

If you haven’t seen Brick Set B, please see that video first. In that description I go over ABABAB Patterns. If you’re not sure about them, they’re alternating patterns. Our brick set up needs to alternate so that the bricks all line up properly throughout the abstract shape.

My Brick Set A relies on knowing how to read a ruler. Set up the ruler on Brick Set B higher in the interior of the abstract shape. Line it up on the inch marks made. Make new marks on the blank row above that will become Brick Set A. You will need to mark the ½” all the way across the abstract shape. Do not mark the exterior. Do the same on a row close to the bottom of the abstract shape. Turn your ruler to line up the ½” markings and trace Brick Set A ONLY.

You will see the remainder of the bricks fill in as you continue across the page. Double check around the edges to be sure that you do not have any bricks extending past one inch anywhere else.

Variations can be made based on material you’d like to use. Remember that if you use popsicle sticks as a wall, you may need to skip this step. Any additional changes to the brick sizes will decide the space we’re working with and since graffiti pieces are bigger than tags, the project shown is to have a medium size brick.

Note about music over audio instructions:

Until I have a quiet space to record directions, I will be avoiding adding them.

Life happens at my house. It’s loud and alive, silly and spontaneous… During nearly all of my videos, ambient sounds are not the only ones recorded.
