Ram Sutar was born in the year 1925. He is an Indian sculptor who has many laurels for his creative work. He was trained by Guruji Shri Shri Ram Krishna Joshi. He was in charge of restoring several ancient sculptures in the caves of Ajanta and Ellora. He played a great role in preparing the five-year plan and quit his Government job in 1959. His Interest towards sculpting was such that he wanted to become a professional sculptor. His first work includes the chambal monument at Gandhi Sagar Dam, which was 45 feet tall. It was carved out of a single rock which made his work more popular. Chambal is divided between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. This monument depicts the brotherhood between these 2 states. His work was so appreciated that Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru assigned him the project of Bhakra dam. He was asked to make a 50 feet bronze monument that would pay a tribute to the labourers who had sacrificed their life for building a modern India. His work “Triumph of Labour” won an entry for best Indian Sculptor. His next work was the statue of Shri Govind Ballabh Pant overlooking Rafi Marg. It would be surprising to know that Ram Sutar made more than 200 monumental scriptures that define beauty. He has won many national awards including the Padmashree award for his tremendous work in the world of sculptures. He is a true legend who has won the heart of many people, state and countries with his sheer hard work and dedication.
