Education is the basic necessity, but everyone is not privileged to get it. Education is a major factor for the growth of the children as well as Nation. Better the education, higher is the number of doctors, engineers, teachers, scientists and other professionals. There are underprivileged kids who had dreamt of joining a school but never got an opportunity to step into a school premise. To fulfil the dreams of such aspirants, Rajesh Kumar Sharma started a free school under the bridge. Yes, you read it right. There are no set boundaries, there is no school playground, but definitely a place for the young aspirants to sit and get the basic education. The teaching is imparted by Rajesh Kumar Sharma who teaches Hindi and English. Laxmi Chandra, who has joined in this noble cause takes care of science and mathematics. He is a tuition teacher in Bihar who has witnessed that most of the children move towards Naxalism due to poverty. To prevent the kids from turning into Naxalites, he too joined Rajesh Sharma. The school started with 50 students and it has grown to 200. The chairs have been contributed by neighbours so that the kids do not have to be on the ground. A ready toilet has been set for the female students to prevent them from controlling the bladder. The school begins at 9.00 am sharp and continues till 12.00. Physical training is also imparted to the kids. The boys have to go to Government school after the shift. The girls have the morning shift. Thus, one may not be able to see many female students in the Underground school. The creator of the school is planning to start a separate shift for the girls so that there is no gender discrimination. There were many individuals and organisations that tried helping the schools to run, but it worked only for a short duration. The major problem faced by the school is the lack of funds to provide more facilities to the students. A good education and good meal are what the students desire for. A blackboard is painted on the Mero’s depot wall which helps the teachers to take the classes. The students are given assignments and tasks to be completed at home. Their notebooks are corrected by the respective teacher. They also have exams so that individual skills can be assessed.
