In which Dr. Corey Olsen continues his examination of the fourth volume of the History of Middle-earth series with Chapter III, Parts 1-7 of The Shaping of Middle-earth.
In this session we concluded our discussion of 'The Sketch of the Mythology' or 'The Earliest "Silmarillion"' (1926), giving thought to how the items Tolkien chose to include suggest the importance of these details to him. We then began to examine 'The Quenta' (1930), which expands and of course revises what came before, and features some of Tolkien's loftiest and most beautiful prose.
