In which Dr. Corey Olsen continues his examination of the fourth volume of the History of Middle-earth series with Chapter III, Parts 8-14 of The Shaping of Middle-earth.
This week we continued our discussion of how the 1930 Quenta grows organically out of 'The Sketch.' Tolkien seems to have intended to tell the story by mixing epic poems with prose epitomes. We also examined the portrayal of Dwarves in the Quenta and The Hobbit, which Tolkien was also writing at this time.
