The pretty town of Tenterden in Southwest of Kent holds this rather vintage and boomy ring of 8 with an unusual slightly out of tune 3rd, barely noticeable but if you pay attention it can be picked out.
St Mildred’s holds the 4th heaviest ring of bells in Kent and the 23rd heaviest ring of 8 in the world, not even special but thought I’d add it in anyway… the bells were cast by a very mixed bag of founders starting off with the Lester & Pack treble dating back from 1769, the 5th from 1826 by Thomas II Mears of Whitechapel, then the three 1884 Warner bells being the 2,7 and tenor (explains why the back two sound glorious.) The Alfred Bowell 4 from 1920 and finally the 3rd and 6th by Mears & Stainbank (both previously cracked recast in 1961.)
The bells are a joy to ring and do go very nicely, but they are big so a fair amount of pulling is required they have a nice old fashioned growl to them too which is always a pleasure to listen to.
