Members of the Romney Marsh & District Guild of ringers ringing part of an unsuccessful Quarter Peal attempt of Grandsire Triples on the grand old 22cwt octave at Borden Parish Church.
Borden are still hanging on their original elm headstocks and fittings as supplied by Thos Mears (Whitechapel Foundry) in 1802. Samuel Snelling of Sittingbourne (a practical ringer of some note, and member of the Ancient Society of College Youths) rehung the bells on new gudgeons and his patent bearings in 1886; otherwise the installation is entirely original. The bells are therefore not suited to an inexperienced band.
The band in this attempt stood in the following order:
Treble: Dillon M. Kershaw (Aged 13)
2: Michael J. Wigney (Conductor)
3: Hugo L. Tracey
4: David W. Threlfall
5: Alan P. Turner
6: Ian N. Wiltshire
7: Christopher J. Cooper
Tenor: Roderic K. Bickerton
Vicar: Fr John Lewis SSC.
Tower Captain: Alan Harwood.
