🔬 CAMP Test is an important biochemical identification test in Systematic Bacteriology, commonly asked in BMLS exams, practicals & viva.

📌 What is CAMP Test?

🔹 CAMP = Christie, Atkins & Munch-Petersen
🔹 A synergistic hemolysis test
🔹 Used to identify Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B Streptococcus)
🔹 Performed on blood agar

🧠 Principle of CAMP Test:

🩸 Streptococcus agalactiae produces CAMP factor
➕ CAMP factor enhances β-hemolysis of Staphylococcus aureus
▶️ Results in arrow-head shaped hemolysis (positive test)

🧪 Requirements:

✔ Blood agar plate
✔ Staphylococcus aureus (β-hemolytic strain)
✔ Test organism
✔ Incubator (37°C)

⚙️ Procedure:

1️⃣ Streak Staphylococcus aureus in a straight line
2️⃣ Streak test organism perpendicular (do not touch)
3️⃣ Incubate at 37°C for 18–24 hours
4️⃣ Observe hemolysis pattern

📊 Result Interpretation:

✅ Positive CAMP Test:
▶️ Arrow-shaped zone of enhanced hemolysis
✔ Indicates Streptococcus agalactiae

❌ Negative CAMP Test:
✖ No enhanced hemolysis
✖ Other Streptococci

🦠 Organism Identified:

✔ Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B)
❌ Streptococcus pyogenes (CAMP negative)
