Chapter 4: Season Six Oats & Toast
Title: Spiritual Savvy & Sensitivity to Protect our Bread
Scripture Texts: Job 28: 5-6, 20,22 & 28,Psalm 9: 18-19 & Psalm 105: 15-17,22.
Wisdom, spiritual sensitivity and real world skill to protect our bread supply takes many unexpected turns during the season of Oats and Toast. The points of this lesson are:
Wisdom is more difficult to possess than common sense. It is not automatic and frequently anything but obvious. Even destruction and death have no idea where wisdom comes from; but they know it has saved many from death by famine before. Job 28:20-22.
Sensitivity and Savvy for food security frequently requires celestial and supernatural helpers. Psalm 9: 18,20.
Where there is a physical bread problem, there is a spiritual solution. Psalm 105:17.
The Message:
Bread is life. It is a spiritual and physical nutrient. The absence of bread is a bad omen. Bread is not limited to grains, it indicates general provision and occupation. Job 28:20 asks where does wisdom come from? This is asked because it is not easily accessible. Job 28: 22 Destruction and death have heard the fame thereof. The ability to maintain a steady bread supply thwarts hunger and the collapse of civilization. Psalm 105: 17 G-d sent a man named Joseph. Joseph was the prophetic interpreter who wielded the bread rod to prevent mass starvation.
The Blessing: What ways can we fight hunger? Have we prayed for more savvy, sensitivity, and wisdom? There are many ancient farming and irrigation practices that preserve the environment. Start a home garden, contribute to the local food pantry. We all have expertise and or real life experience to tackle hunger. Let's name a few.
