Transcript: I’m Father Dominic with another baking secret from the Bread Monk. I like the look of a light icing drizzle on my pastries and coffee cakes, and here’s what I do to get the look I want. I take powdered sugar and a pinch of salt, a little half and half, I like to use the flavored ones like French vanilla or hazelnut, I whisk, I pop it in the microwave for about 10 to 15 seconds, and then I let it cool until it’s the exact consistency I want to pour, and then over it goes across the pastry, look at that. So beautiful. Another possibility, if you want something with beautiful shine but not quite as sweet, microwave ordinary corn syrup and then use a pastry brush to put a light glaze over the top of a small pastry.
