Listen to the melodious calls of the Japanese thrush - Turdus cardis.
This member of the thrush family is a migratory species that arrives in Japan at the beginning of spring. Its fluty call starts resonating in Hokkaido's forests around May time. The bird skulks around in the undergrowth and is seldom seen, but its sounds are easy to hear and remember. The song of the Japanese thrush is long and rich but often quite repetitive.
