Desert - Hajduk's revenge (English Lyrics)

Описание: In 1876, the Bulgarian people living under the Ottoman empire rose up in revolt. New ideas of nationalism had spread to the Balkans, inspiring Serbs in Herzegovina to rise up a year before and now the Bulgarians decided it was time to assert their independence. On the 20th of April, revolutionaries took the town of Koprivshtitsa and attacked the police station, forcing a release of more revolutionaries. Shortly after this, the towns of Gabrovo, Tryavna and Pavlikeni joined in the revolt. The Ottoman response was swift and brutal, sending in hundreds of thousands of soldiers and mobilising thousands of Islamic partisans known as Bashi-bazouk, who swiftly crushed the rebellion. These forces then moved into civilian areas where the revolt had begun and massacred civilians there to serve as a warning to others. It is estimated that around 30,000 civilians were killed in response to the rising.
