The Napoleonic wars have left a long lasting impression on Europe and indeed on the entire world. They started as the first large scale ideological revolution, the French revolution and grew to France's conquest of most of Europe before finally ending in Napoleons dramatic exile to St. Helena. Never before in the history of the world had one man been so feared and so loved. He is still remembered today both as a tyrant, a conqueror of Europe and a liberator, a bringer of rights. He was remembered fondly by the French, as despite his deposition, a new Republic was installed in France no more than 33 years after with the revolutionary tricolour as the flag. In spite of his eventual defeat and exile, his is a name that will be remembered forever.
