Today’s journey takes me deeper into British Columbia’s West Kootenays, as I depart the mountain town of Revelstoke and begin the long drive south through one of the most scenic — and historically complex — regions of the province.

The day begins with a drive toward Shelter Bay, where I board the ferry across Upper Arrow Lake, crossing to the Galena Bay Ferry Terminal. It’s a quiet, atmospheric crossing that sets the tone for the road ahead.

From there, I head southeast toward the town of New Denver, where I visit the Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre. Here, I take time to reflect on the internment of Japanese Canadians during World War Two, and the lasting impact it had on families and communities throughout the region.

After New Denver, the journey continues south through the lakes and mountain valleys of the West Kootenays, passing through the small towns of Silverton and along the shores of Christina Lake, with stretches of road offering some of the most striking scenery of the entire trip.

As daylight fades, I push on through the interior of British Columbia, finishing the day with a night drive into Kelowna, where I end this long and unforgettable stretch of road.

This episode captures the contrast of the West Kootenays — breathtaking landscapes, quiet communities, and a deeper history woven into the valleys and lakes of southern British Columbia.
