The 6 bells of Diptford form a very good sounding ring. The bells are arranged 3 above 3 with 2nd, 5th and Tenor on the lower tier and Treble, 3rd and 4th above. The internal acoustics are a little unclear and it can be difficult to pick out the the 3 lighter bells, especially the 2nd which also shouts oneside in the ringing room. They are odd struck, most notably the 2nd, and as a result are a challenge to ring well, but if you get them right, they do sound excellent from the churchyard.
The bells were rehung and tuned in 1950 by John Taylor of Loughborough, who hung the bells in a 2 tier cast iron frame on all new fittings.
The weights are as follows - Treble 5-0-8, 2nd 6-0-16, 3rd 6-3-7, 4th 7-2-3, 5th 9-2-1 and Tenor 11-3-12 in G, all cast by Thomas Mears of Whitechapel in 1822.
This video was taken from the churchyard on Thursday 15th May.
