Stithians village is situated in West Cornwall, around 6 miles or so West of Truro.
The 6 bells in the tower were last rehung by John Taylor & Co in 1950, where they hung the bells in a cast iron frame and on new ringing fittings, they tuned the bells at the same time. Treble, 2nd and 3rd cast by Mears & Stainbank of Whitechapel in 1930, 4th and 5th cast in 1950 by Taylor and the Tenor, clearly a superb bell by John Harvey of Hayle in 1790, it is also listed.
The bells go well, are easy to handle and sound superb, one of my favourite sixes in Cornwall. the weights of the bells are fairly hefty for a ring with a Tenor weighing in at only 8-1-10 in the key of G. Treble 5-0-7, 2nd 5-3-15, 3rd 6-0-16, 4th 6-3-18, 5th 7-3-3.
We hear the bells being risen before being called into Queens and then following the Devon call change peal.of 60 on 3rd's with the bells being lowered at the end. the video is taken from the churchyard, it was a windy day on Saturday but I'm sure you can hear how good the bells are.
