Monte Bar is a mountain 1,816 meters above sea level in the Lugano Pre-Alps in the Swiss canton of Ticino. It is located between Val Colla and Val d'Isone and is known for its striking, gently curved summit and 360-degree panorama over Lake Lugano to the Valais Alps.

The mountain hut: Capanna Monte Bar

The modern Capanna Monte Bar is located just below the summit at 1,600 m.

Facilities: The hut offers 42 beds, a restaurant with a large panoramic terrace, seminar rooms, and a bike workshop.

Opening hours (February 2026): During the winter months, the hut is primarily open on weekends (Friday to Sunday).

Friday & Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Sunday: 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Monday to Thursday: Closed.

Activities & hikes

Monte Bar is a year-round destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts.
Hiking from Corticiasca: A popular ascent leads from Corticiasca (Val Colla) steeply through forests and meadows to the hut in about 1.5 to 2 hours (difficulty: difficult, approx. 575 meters of elevation gain).

Winter: When there is sufficient snow, the hut is a classic destination for
snowshoe or ski tours.

Mountain biking: The mountain is part of a dense network of bike trails and lies on the well-known multi-day route from Monte Brè to Tesserete.
Viewpoint: From the summit, you can see from Monte Boglia to Passo del San Lucio.

Getting there & parking

Car: Parking is available at Parcheggio Monte Bar (near Corticiasca/Bidogno). Some visitors also park further down at the Oratorio dei Santi Fermo e Rustico.

Public transport: Take the PostBus from Lugano to the “Corticiasca, Paese” or “Bogno” stop.

Note: The access road may be closed seasonally; in September 2025, it was reported to be closed until October.
