As Papua New Guinea marks 50 years of independence, Prime Minister James Marape has hailed the new National and Supreme Court Complex at Waigani as a monument to democracy and the rule of law.
The official opening was performed by Governor-General Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae. PM Marape said the state-of-the-art facility is “not just a building, but an investment in the very core of our democracy,” symbolising the independence of the judiciary which has safeguarded the nation since 1975.
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to resourcing the judiciary at all levels — from the Supreme Court to magistrates and village courts — and urged every Papua New Guinean to honour the law as the country’s greatest gift to its future.
