Prime Minister Hon. James Marape has called on Papua New Guineans — especially the younger generation — to embrace optimism, merit, and national responsibility as the country prepares to celebrate 50 years of independence.
📍 Speaking at the 2025 PNG Update at the University of Papua New Guinea, the Prime Minister reflected on:
Honouring the founding leaders and the sacrifices of 1975.
PNG’s turbulent political history and economic journey — from instability to growth.
His personal story of resilience, from humble beginnings to national leadership.
The need for merit-based governance, reforms, and the use of technology to fight corruption.
A challenge to students and young people to work hard, avoid negativity, and build the nation.
💡 PM Marape ended with a message of hope: “Our fathers gave us democracy; now we must nurture and grow it. Together, we can build a stronger, fairer Papua New Guinea for the next 50 years.”
