Mr Bothwell Mbuwayesango was the lead paediatric surgeon in the historic operation to separate conjoined twins in Zimbabwe. In this talk, he discusses how and why he and his team made a seemingly impossible surgery a reality in very dire circumstances
Mr Bothwell Mbuwayesango is a lecturer and consultant in paediatric surgery. His research interests include Gastroschisis, obstructive jaundice, intussusceptions, paediatric minimal access surgery. He was the lead surgeon on a team of 50 healthcare workers who initiated and were successful in separating a pair of conjoined twins. This is Zimbabwe’s first such successful surgery.
