Описание: What do you get when you unite custom-made, 3D-printed devices, decades of combined medical training, and a solid partnership and flourishing friendship between two surgeons? Last year at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Dr. Gregory Heuer and Dr. Jesse A. Taylor, along with 30 individuals carried out a complex 11-hour surgery that separated a pair of conjoined twins—one of the earliest separations of craniopagus conjoined twins ever recorded. Innovating in surgery can be a difficult task, with unique problems specific to medicine. In order to accomplish this early separation all members of the care team were integrated from the beginning. Technology, such as computer generated distraction devices, were then applied that took advantage of the functional matrix and the normal healing process the young patient. Dr. Taylor is an attending surgeon in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) specializing in the treatment of children and adolescents with cleft lip, cleft palate and other craniofacial anomalies. He currently acts as co-director of CHOP’s Cleft Lip and Palate Program and serves as director of the University of Pennsylvania / CHOP Craniofacial Fellowship Program. Dr. Heuer completed his neurosurgery residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and his fellowship training in pediatric neurosurgery at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He specializes in fetal neurosurgery and the treatment of congenital conditions. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Neurosurgery. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
