Each winter, elegant terns (Thalasseus elegans) gather in the Bay Area, filling the shoreline with motion and sound.
Among the flocks, a delicate courtship unfolds.
Elegant terns perform a courtship ritual called "Courtship Feeding", where the male offers a fish to prove he can provide.
If the female accepts, a partnership may begin.
Through dance and the offering of a fish, males demonstrate their ability to provide.
