"Make Me Stop Smoking", a performance by Rabih Mroué at the Darat al Funun on 30 April 2008.
Mroué's practice questions the definitions of theatre and the relationship between space and the form of a performance. His semi-documentary works use documents, photographs and found objects to draw attention to the broader political and economic contexts of contemporary Beirut.
Born in Beirut in 1967, Rabih Mroué studied theatre at the University of Lebanon in Beirut. Mroué started to produce his own plays and video performances in 1990. He has acted in, directed and co-directed several plays, videos and mixed-media performances, among which are: L'Abat-jour (1990); The Elevator (1993); Extension 19 (1997); Come in Sir, We Will Wait for You Outside (1998); Three Posters (2000), The Red Dead Zone (2000), and Face A/Face B (2001). Since 1995 he has been working at Future TV where has directed a number of animated films and documentaries.
