Croatian sweet Easter bread is called pinca, pinza or sirnica. It originates from the Italian province of Trieste but, over the centuries, it has traveled to Istria and Dalmatia.
The ancient recipes from our grandmothers didn't include yeast. Pinca was made with sourdough. These days, however, everyone in Croatia uses the more convenient option of instant yeast.
This is my take on the traditional pinca, as it was made 100 years ago.
