How to Fail a Game Jam

This is a video going over the process of me making a game for the Boss Rush Jam 2025 (https://itch.io/jam/boss-rush-jam-2025). If you don’t know, a game jam is a “competition” where tons of game developers are tasked with making an entire game in a set amount of time based on a specified theme. In this case, we had to make a boss rush based on the theme “Spin”. Most of the bigger game jams usually last a week or even down to 48 hours, but this go around we had an entire month (January 2nd - February 2nd) to make our games.

A lot of jams also let you use any game engine you’d like, mainly Unreal Engine, Unity, or Godot. For the past year and a half in doing game dev I’ve been using UE5, and this was a great opportunity for me to actually practice and apply my skills with the engine on a more long-term project like this. I do also want to add more content to the game I submitted, like a tutorial and a couple more boss fights.

Pretty unrelated, but honestly I’m surprised I got this video done so quickly. Just last year it took me months to edit a video of around the same duration, but now it’s only taking me a few weeks :) I’m currently trying to develop some sort of groove and consistency when making my video so they’re easier/faster to make, so it’s really satisfying seeing results like that.
