STORYLINE:
Peru's National Police force brought some holiday cheer to the capital on Wednesday, ditching their normal uniforms and donning colorful Christmas outfits as they drove through the streets as part of an annual festive parade.

Officers dressed as Santa, elves and even the Grinch made their way through Lima in police vehicles decorated with red and green balloons and festive garlands as crowds watched on from the roadside.

They gave out toys and brought smiles to children and adults who gathered to enjoy a moment of excitement on Christmas Eve.

"We want to radiate love, affection, and understanding and reach the population in a different way," said National Police Colonel, Rocio Mayhua.

The Christmas parade has been organized by the National Police for approximately 25 years.
