Описание: Imagine this: a 16 years old boy (the son of a friend of mine, he is NON VERBAL) at the time he was in his classroom, and his aggression was getting worse and worse...

His FRUSTRATION and his VIOLENT OUTBURST was at its peak.

The mom described it as if he was possessed... she said it was like someone came in and took over his body, he was just RAGING, throwing desks over.

It got to the point where the school district said "listen, your child can't come to school anymore...

This describes a typical situation that a parent of an autistic child might experience:

in fact, today we're going to talk about Autism Meltdowns in Teenagers.

Now...

Teenagers present a really unique situation, because teenagers IN GENERAL have a lot of pressures, a lot of stresses, anxieties and hormones going on, so life as a teenager can be a bit challenging as it is;

now throw AUTISM on top of that, and things get really MAGNIFIED.

So it's really important to understand WHY your teenager is having a meltdown, and there are THREE main things that we will talk about, as a parent to a teenager with autism:

1) Are they frustrated?

2) Is there too much pressure, stress, anxiety at school? (Or in whatever environment they're having the meltdown)

3) Hormones

Now: understanding these three things and categorising them, will help you get to the bottom of why your teenager is having meltdowns, if your teenager CAN NOT tell you.

So we will start talking about FRUSTRATION:

I want give you an example of a perfect storm, and what the parents did, and how this turned their child's life around...

It got to the point where the school district said:

"Listen, YOUR CHILD CAN'T COME TO SCHOOL ANYMORE.

There is no way we can handle or manage him, he's a teenager now, he's strong."

This child had ALMOST no language, but this is not everything:

previously at home he learned a VERY PARTICULAR line from a tv show, and he started repeating that during the meeting, at school...
