In 1936 streamlining of engine 242 was completed at the Ratmalana factory, the engine was used for trains running from Colombo to Galle on the Coastal Railway line from March of 1936 to March of 1937.
In 1937 it was realised that the track conditions were not suitable for that of high speed running along with the fact that the Class B1 struggled to run faster than 60mph, the Department of Railways then made the decision to remove the streamlining from engine 242, the distance covered at that time was 20,000 miles in its streamlined form.
