Locomotive 231-726 was a modified André Chapelon design, it was modified by Chapelon to enable the locomotive to reach a designed top speed of 200'km/h (125'mph). In two of my French locomotive books they both state the same thing that 231-726 did indeed reach a documented top speed of 194'km/h (120'mph) whilst hauling a passenger train, this then makes this engine the unofficial steam record holder for the French, it does not state in my books whether or not this claimed top speed of 120'mph was achieved on a down-hill or on a flat level section of track.

Locomotive 231-726 was know as "the Queen of Queens" (la Reine des Reines), during her term with the SNCF she was renumbered to 231.H.726, as mentioned in these two French books her claimed top speed was achieved in 1938 on the SNCF network and had a dynamometer carriage along with five passenger carriages in tow. This locomotive was extensively modified by Chapelon, he redesigned the engine to achieve 125'mph, literature on this can be found in various French Railway Publications, 231-726 was at that time "the most powerful pacific in all of Europe".

You will notice that Chapelon is seen in my upload on multiple occasions brought back to life using AI.

I again have used AI from multiple black & white pictures of engine 231-726 scanned from my French train books, I then enhanced them & I also Colorized them, from these modified pictures I then created this AI film footage, this modified AI work is my Copyright © & cannot be used by anyone else. I had to use AI as I have absolutely no 8mm film footage showing engine 231-726, I went through my entire collection with no result.
