Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat was out on patrol when the Lifeboat was informed from the stations Lifeboat Operations Manager, that he had received details from a hotel owner, three people had been possiblycut off by the tide at Luccombe Bay, between Shanklin and Dunnose, as a member of those who were cut off had made it round to Shanklin and raise the alarm. Along with the details given, the stations LOM requested that the hotel owner dialled 999, ask for the Coastguard to also make them aware, SSILB was asked to investigate by the stations LOM and inform Solent Coastguard of their findings.

The Lifeboat made her way in choppy seas, round to Luccombe Bay, on scene the Lifeboat Crew found the people who had indeed been cut off by the tide, Ventnor Coastguard (VCG) were paged to attend by SCG, the Lifeboat Coxswain made a decision to extract the people and requested that VCG team meet the Lifeboat at Hope Beach where the casualties would be dropped off to them.

The location of the causalities is very shallow, very rocky, the Coxswain navigated the Lifeboat into the shore line and placed the Lifeboat as close into shore as possible.

Once onshore an SSILB crew member fitted the people cut off by the tide, causality lifejackets and the Lifeboat crew then assisted the people on-board the Lifeboat.

Once clear, the Lifeboat headed to Hope Beach (Shanklin) as the chosen drop off point, where the VCG Team were waiting with warm blankets and a warm vehicle.

The Lifeboat was released from the tasking, thanked from SCG, the Lifeboat returned to station for a refuel and wash down ready for the next service.

The three holiday makers were taken back to their hotel by the Ventnor Coastguard Team.
