There are a lot of types of them, so I don't even know which to show you. We've already made a regural 8-gore skirt, a spiral skirt and a 12-gore skirt with the low flare.
Today we'll be working with a long floor-length skirt. It will be an 8-gore skirt. I know that we've already sewn such skirts, but I want to show you a long one.
The flare will start at the knee level, and it will be longer at the back side. The back seams and center back will be more flare.
I want you to be able to use your imagination and create the skirts, not depending on the patterns.
Of course we'll be using the basic pattern.
Those of you who don't have a good basic pattern can purchase our video course on the 10-measurement system. It includes 2 types of the pattern designing – a regular type of figure and the one which requires a lot of tucks.
I want the flare to start 47 cm up from the bottom. You choose its height yourself.
When the skirt of a dress is so beautiful, you don’t need to make the upper part complicated. Even the most simple upper part will look good with such skirt.
You can make the flare of any width and height. You don’t have to copy what I'm doing – learn how to use your imagination.
I managed to make the flare on the back 18 cm wide. If you take more fabric, you can make it wider.
I’ll cut the gores out and start designing the front.
I’ll be happy to see the photos of the fit-and-flare skirts you make. Sometimes I get so tired that I’m not even sure you need it.
Notice that I put the gores in different directions. You can’t do it on any fabric – it depends on the color, design and so on.
I'm showing you how to sew a floor-length 8-gore skirt. You can make a long skirt with any number of gores, so don’t try to copy me. Be creative.
The flare is so huge, because the line is longer than in the previous skirts. The back side will be even bigger, because the flare is wider in the back seams.
Why have I decided to make the flare 47 cm high? It’s a bit higher than the knees. You can change the height.
Now you see that the 8-gore skirts can be absolutely different.
If you sew a bodice on the basis of the 10-measurement system and attach it to this skirt, you’ll get an amazing dress.
What a beautiful skirt! We can add the lining and it will make the flare look even better.
If you want the flare to look wider, the lining should follow all the curves of the skirt. Each flare of a lining should copy the flares of the skirt.
