Описание: PERSONALITY VOCABULARY: Advanced Personality Adjectives

In this video, you will some new, advanced personality adjectives. This adjective list is specifically targeted towards English learners wanting to lear adjectives of C1 and C2 level.

Here is a list of a few of the personality adjectives covered in this video:

1. altruistic: an altruistic person is selfless. They put other’s feelings and needs before their own feelings and needs. They like to help others. They enjoy giving and helping other people and don’t expect anything in return. For example, if you help someone whose car broke down on the side of the road— you might be an altruistic person
2. assertive: this describes someone who is very direct and confident when it comes to asking for and getting what they want. They are not shy or slow to say what is on their mind they assert themselves. Some people, especially in the job or cooperate world are not assertive enough. They may be afraid to say their opinion or even ask their boss to give them a pay raise. Because they are not assertive, they might be unhappy. The job world is a place where assertive people do very well.
hospitable: this describes a person who is friendly or welcoming to guests or visitors. Typically, in the American South, you will find very hospitable people. They don’t mind helping out a stranger. If they invite guests over, the guests will surely be taken care of. Perhaps a meal might be prepared for them.
3. punctual: this describes a person who generally does things at the planned time. They, for the most part, arrive at planned meetings or events at the right time. I consider myself to be a punctual person. If we plan to meet at a restaurant at 6:00 pm, I will almost certainly arrive at the restaurant at 6:00 pm or earlier.
4. conscientious: a conscientious person wants to do things carefully and correctly. If you are a conscientious student, you probably take great notes, follow all of the directions, and turn in all of your assignments on time. You also care about the quality of your work.
5. mellow: this describes a person who is always very calm. They do not get very excited about much, nor do they get visibly upset about much. They are mostly very relaxed
6. quirky: quirky people can be described as strange but in a good way. They are different from most people. Perhaps they dress in unusual clothes or have unusual habits. In spite of this, they are still very likable and interesting. There used to be a North American TV show that came on PBS called, The Magic School Bus. On this show, there was a teacher who dressed in strange clothes and was very different from other teachers. You would probably never see a teacher like Ms. Frizzle. Although unusual, she was still very likable and interesting. You could call her a quirky person.
7. prudent: a prudent person has good judgment. They are careful and thoughtful. A prudent person is not one to make a decision without knowing the details and understanding the situation. Let’s say you were offered a job you are excited about it. You are prudent, so you don’t just accept the job. You ask lots of questions so that you know everything you need to know about the job before taking it.
8. vivacious: this word describes someone who has an attractive, positive, energetic, and lively personality. We usually use this word to describe women. If you know a woman who is always smiling, enjoys dancing, going out, meeting new people, and enjoying life—you could call her vivacious.
9. down-to-earth: a down-to-earth person is realistic. They are honest with themselves and with others about who they are. They are simple. They do not see any reason to try and impress others. They don’t care to show off or have expensive things. Let’s take Warren Buffet as an example. He’s one of the richest men in the world. He’s a billionaire investor and he’s mentioned in interviews that he doesn’t care to have fancy dinners or drive expensive cars. He does what he likes and feels no need to impress others. He is a down-to-earth person.
10. gutsy: a gutsy person is very brave. They take risks and do things others are afraid to do. In English, we also say that a person ‘has guts’ if they do something that others are afraid to do. If you go sky diving, you have guts or you are gutsy
