Use of IF and UNLESS
1. IF
If is used to express a condition — something that may happen if another thing happens.
Structure:
If + present tense → future/simple present
Examples:
If you work hard, you will succeed.
If it rains, we stay at home.
I will help you if you ask me.
2. UNLESS
Unless means “if…not”. It expresses a negative condition.
Structure:
Unless + present tense → future/simple present
Examples:
You will fail unless you study.
(= You will fail if you do not study.)
We won’t go out unless it stops raining.
You cannot enter unless you have a ticket.
