Bombil Fish Curry
CKP Style
Bombay Duck/ Bombil Fish Curry served with steamed rice is a favorite CKP dish. 'Ambat,Tikhat Bomblacha Kalvan' always brings a smile to a CKP foodies face. [CKP means-Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhu a Maharashtrian sub- caste]
Ingredients:-
1 kg Bombay Duck/Bombil washed and cleaned and cut into big pieces
Oil 3 tbsp
Garlic 10-12 Crushed
Coriander/Dhania leaves for Garnishing
1 tsp Turmeric Powder,
1½ tsp Red Chilli Powder
Salt to taste
3 tbsp Imli Pulp(Tamarind)
¼th cup coconut Paste
2 cups water
Fot the green masala paste(Hirva Vatan)
15 Garlic Cloves
1 Ginger
¼th Cup Coriander Leaves
3 Green Chillies
Step 1: grind these together with ½cup water into a paste.
Step 2:marinate the Bombil-
Mix the green masala paste with 1½tbsp Red Chilli Powder, 1 tsp turmeric powder, salt and 3 tbsp Imli Pulp
apply the mixture to the Bombil.
Step 3: Heat 3 tbsp oil and add 10-12 Garlic Cloves. Saute till they turn golden brown. Then add the Bombil and saute for a few seconds. Cooking to be done on high heat. Then add ¼th Cup Coconut Paste(grind ¼th Cup Coconut with little water) and 2 cups water. Boil for 2 minutes. Bombil cooks very fast. Do not use spatula (spoon) after initial sauteing. Swirl and mix Gently. Garnish with Coriander leaves.
