This video is all about bone cancer! We start with a brief discussion on metastasis. They are commonly from primary sources like lungs and prostate, and you must know that prostate mets is osteoblastic! Alright, now that's out of the way, let's talk about primary bone cancer.
Benign tumors include:
Osteoma - most commonly on facial bones, it's associated with Gardner syndrome (osteoma + colonic polyps)
Osteoid Osteoma and Osteoblastoma - we'll discuss the differences in the video
Osteochondroma - the most easily recognized of them all. It's a bone tumor with a cartilage cap
Giant cell tumor: made of osteoclasts, it causes a bubbly appearance.
Malignant neoplasms
Osteosarcoma: you should be aware of image findings such as the sunburst appearance and the Codman Triangle (lifting of the periosteum)
Ewings: made of neuroectoderm origin, it causes onion skinning periosteal reaction and t11:22 translocation
That's it for skeletal neoplasms. But, because this is MSK, we also must discuss muscle neoplasms! Common ones include rhabdomyoma and rhabdomyosarcoma, which can come out of the vagina in young girls.
Our last topic in this video isn't actually neoplasms! It's on something that may LOOK like it. This is myositis ossificans, which is the skeletalization of muscle due to constant inflammation!
