Location: Canton Township Fire Station #3
System: Canton
Test time: 1st Monday of the month at noon
Enthusiasts present: Tommy (Tommy's Sirens & Aviation), Alex (NJTransit Railfanning Productions), Cameron (Sirens of NE Ohio), Aaron (Ohio Outdoor Warning Sirens)
For the first Monday of August, we decided to meet with a few other enthusiasts at what may very well be the highest-pitched 2001 on record. This thing peaks at a frequency of around 860 Hz, and as you would imagine, it is extremely shrill in person. This easily takes the cake for the loudest 2001 I've ever been to, and my meter got a max reading of 118.5 dBC. Tommy's meter ended up topping at a whopping 125 dBA, although I still don't feel like it was as loud as some other sirens we've heard, and I certainly didn't feel the vibrations as much.
The rotator on this one stays on for a while after the chopper motor shuts off, and as we were waiting for it to stop, it fired up for another round of 2 minutes! After the test was over, we tagged along with Cameron to take a tour of Orrville's sirens, which was fun. Enjoy!
