EARLY TERMINATION OF PROBATION IN NEVADA

Although being on probation is infinitely better than being incarcerated, it is still very inconvenient and anxiety-inducing. Here are three things to know about getting released from your probation ahead of schedule in Nevada:

1) The first step is to file a motion for "early termination of probation" with the court. Then the judge would contact the D.A. and probation officer for their input. The judge may also hold a court hearing on the matter.

2) Judges have a lot of discretion over whether to grant early termination of probation. Some may refuse to consider it as a matter of policy, but many judges will consider it on a case-by-case basis.

3) Judges are more likely to grant early termination of probation if you have been compliant with all the terms of probation, and if you have finished paying restitution (if the court ordered any). Some other factors the judges consider are:

The Probation Board is required to recommend early termination of probation for certain defendants who have been compliant for the last 12 months.

a. Your criminal history,
b. The nature of the crime you’re on probation for, and
c. How long ago the crime occurred
