We set out on a 6-mile hike straight from our campsite at Jumbo Rocks Campground in Joshua Tree National Park — no driving required.
This incredible loop takes us to iconic Skull Rock, the Discovery Trail, Face Rock, and Split Rock. Skull Rock may be one of the most photographed spots in the park — and yes, it’s crowded — but the real magic of this hike isn’t just the named attractions.
It’s the journey.
Towering monzogranite formations. Quiet desert washes. Natural rock sculptures around every bend. And an incredible array of desert-adapted plants that thrive in this harsh but beautiful landscape.
Joshua Tree is more than a checklist of roadside stops — it’s an immersive desert experience, and this hike captures it perfectly.
