Services on this route usually operate every half hour with the same stopping pattern on each service. This route provides the fastest service in to central London for stations between Carshalton Beeches and West Croydon. Between West Croydon and Sutton additional Southern services operate as part of stopping services to London Victoria via Clapham Junction and operate to Epsom Downs. Between Sutton and Epsom Southern operate services to London Victoria via Hackbridge and south towards Dorking and Horsham. On the section between Norwood Junction and London Bridge many other services operate both fast and stopping operated by both Southern and Thameslink along with London Overground on the East London Line between West Croydon and New Cross Gate.
At Sutton there are alternative Thameslink services to London Blackfriars and the Thameslink core towards St Albans and at Epsom there are South Western Railway stopping services to London Waterloo via Wimbledon. There is Tramlink interchange at West Croydon on the Croydon loop and at London Bridge there is interchange with Southeastern and Thameslink services along with London Underground Jubilee and Northern lines.
The rolling stock used on this route is class 377 Electrostar units. These can be the older 3/4 carriage units or the newer 5 carriage units which mean services on this route are usually formed of 8 or 10 carriages with this journey being filmed on an 8 carriage service.
