This journey was filmed on Saturday 1st February 2025 on the 1241 departure which called at Selby, Howden and Brough. This service was a planned diversion due to engineering works on the usual East Coast Main Line route, meaning this service travelled along the Midland Main Line via Leicester avoiding Sheffield and re-joining the normal route at Doncaster.

Note that some rare/limited use (for passenger services) sections of track were used by this service between EMD and ILN starting 1:34:00, barrow hill route starting at 1:58:40, Sheffield avoiding route starting 2:06:10 and Swinton avoiding route starting 2:17:35. The usual ECML route was re-joined at around 2:31:55.

Services operated by the open access operator Hull Trains usually operate roughly 2 hourly out of London Kings Cross calling at Grantham, Retford and Doncaster in addition with limited extensions to Cottingham and Beverley. The diverted journey did not allow passengers to board/alight at Doncaster to avoid overcrowding the 2 daily services direct to London. The ECML was closed when this was filmed resulting in the longer route to St Pancras, adding around 1 hour to the total journey time. On the usual route LNER also operate a daily Azuma service to Hull. This diversion route is shared with East Midlands Railway and Thameslink services on the MML section. Through Chesterfield Cross Country and Northern also operate. Between Doncaster/Selby and Hull additional services operate by Northern and TransPennine Express. At St Pancras there is interchange with London Underground Circle, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan, Northern, Piccadilly and Victoria lines as well as Southeastern High Speed and Eurostar international services.

The rolling stock on this route (Hull Trains) is 5 carriage class 802 Intercity Express Trains branded as Paragon. These replaced the 5 carriage class 180 Adelante at Hull Trains which in turn replaced the 4 carriage class 222 Meridian which in turn replaced the 3 carriage class 170 Turbostar.

This route is electrified between London and Market Harborough using overhead electrification but is unelectrified for the remained of the route, except in the area around Doncaster on the ECML. This route is mainly double tracked throughout with fast and slow line pairs south of Bedford.
