For over 25 years, Oceanwide Expeditions has been a pioneer in polar expedition voyages. From our formation out of a Dutch research program to our creation of Basecamp Antarctica to our release of the world’s first-registered Polar Class 6 vessel, Hondius, we provide you the most innovative, advanced, close-contact experience of the pristine polar world.

Operating our own fleet of safe, swift, comfortable ice-strengthened vessels, our continuing philosophy is to provide you maximum shore time, utmost contact with the exotic polar wildlife, and ample outdoor activities that fully immerse you in this fantastic environment.

In other words, it’s our goal at Oceanwide to take you off the ship and into the action as often as possible. Our short sea routes allow for maximum shore time, and all of our activities are designed to accommodate a wide range of experience and fitness levels.

Kayaking, snowshoeing, mountaineering, camping, scuba diving, and much more – all are available to you, depending on the voyage. We provide much of the equipment you’ll need, and our fleet of Zodiacs will shuttle you to and from all outings with utmost speed and safety.

And if you need more of a lift, we even bring our own helicopters on select Ortelius cruises.

Our aim is two daily outings on land and at sea (and sometimes below it), and our combination of expert crew and small-scale ships allow for supremely flexible itineraries capable of seizing any local weather and wildlife opportunity as it occurs.

Not only that, you’ll benefit from the expertise and enthusiasm of our guides both off the ship and on, enjoying engaging presentations that illuminate everything from polar science to local history.
