Nootka Island Trail Ep.1 | Flying Into Vancouver Island’s Wild Coast
Reaching the Nootka Island Trail isn’t simple. The journey begins with a long drive north through Vancouver Island, followed by a Seaplane flight into one of the wildest coastal landscapes in the Pacific Northwest.
In Part 1 of this series, we fly with Nootka Air to Starfish Lagoon and begin trekking south along the rugged Nootka Island coastline. Along the way we encounter a coastal sea wolf, navigate muddy forest trails and rope climbs, and camp along misty beaches before reaching the beautiful camp at Calvin Falls — where we celebrate my mom turning 75 on the trail.
The Nootka Island Trail is one of the most remote coastal hikes in Cascadia, where temperate rainforest meets the Pacific Ocean and wildlife still moves freely between forest and sea.
Location: Nootka Island, British Columbia
